Switching from Jira Service Management

Moving off Jira Service Management while keeping Jira

This one is different from the others: most teams leaving Jira Service Management are not leaving Jira. Engineering keeps its boards. What moves is the service desk in front of them — and FlowTux syncs back to Jira rather than replacing it.

Run both. Decide with data.

The risk in switching helpdesks is not the import — it is committing before you know whether the AI actually closes your tickets. So do not commit.

  1. 1Keep your current helpdesk runningNothing is switched off. Your existing queue, SLAs, and reporting stay exactly as they are.
  2. 2Point one channel at FlowTuxConnect Slack, or one error tracker, or one inbox — whichever source produces the tickets you most want triaged.
  3. 3Import your historyWe load your ticket export so Tux AI has your categories, resolutions, and duplicate patterns from day one rather than learning from scratch.
  4. 4Run both for two weeksCompare the queues side by side on real traffic: what got auto-resolved, what got deduplicated, what still needed a person.
  5. 5Cut over, or do notIf the numbers do not justify the move, you have lost two weeks of parallel running and no data. If they do, you switch with evidence rather than a leap.

What carries over

  • Service desk requests with comment history, reporter, and assignee
  • Request types, mapped to FlowTux categories
  • Priority and status values, mapped to your FlowTux workflow
  • Custom field values captured on the request
  • Attachments and linked issue references

What does not

  • Jira project configuration, boards, and sprints — these stay in Jira, which is the point
  • Automation for Jira rules, replaced by AI triage rather than translated
  • Confluence knowledge-base articles, exported and reloaded into FlowTux separately
  • JQL filters and dashboards, which remain in Jira against your engineering issues

Getting your data out of Jira Service Management

Jira → Project settings → Export issues produces CSV or JSON. For Jira Cloud the REST API handles larger instances cleanly. FlowTux keeps a bidirectional Jira link afterwards, so a ticket resolved in FlowTux closes its Jira issue and vice versa.

How long it takes

Import is same-day for most service desk projects. The Jira sync is configured in the same session, so engineering never loses the link to its board.

Migration help is included — we do the import and the field mapping with you on a call, at no extra cost and on every plan.

Start with two weeks in parallel

Keep Jira Service Management running. Point one channel at FlowTux, import your history, and compare the two queues on live traffic before anything is switched off.
